GEORGE KILBY JR. | 2/5/2016 & 2/6/2016

FRI & SAT, FEBRUARY 5 & 6, 9 PM.

Born and raised in Anniston Alabama, George’s earliest musical memory is listening to his uncle play Hank Williams songs. As a teenager, he immersed himself in the Southern Rock of the Allman Brothers and was deeply influenced by “outlaw” country music.  At Princeton University, he led “The George Dickel Band” to New York’s legendary Lonestar Café, where he shared the stage with Albert King, Etta James, and James Brown. While touring in support of his first EP, he met Pinetop Perkins and lived with his family in Chicago in 1985.  Then, after a couple of years as busker in Paris, returned to live in New Orleans, where he met and collaborated with Coco Robicheaux with whom he still works occasionally. George tapped Pinetop, R&B legend Rosco Gordon, & New Orleans veteran Charles “Honeyboy” Otis to work with him on his first CD.  By a strange twist of fate, George landed a roadie gig with The Beach Boys and moved briefly to LA where the record was cut.

Currently, he appears regularly at European festivals from Scandinavia to Ireland as well as extensive work on the East coast, with lots of gigs in the Big Apple and Catskill Mountains. He has been a fixture on Manhattan’s downtown roots music scene for 20 years. The band can be seen frequently at BB King’s in Times Square on Sunday nights.

His electric slide guitar technique, exciting stage performances, and engaging persona have been entertaining blues and music fans alike ever since. Mad Dog is celebrating 50 years as a fan and player of the blues.

TAS CRU | 3/4/2016

FRIDAY, MARCH 4, 9 PM.

Raucous, rowdy, gentle, sweet, eccentric, quirky, and outright irreverent are all words that fittingly describe Tas Cru’s songs and testify to his reputation as a one of the most unique of bluesmen plying his trade today. It’s not for nothing that Cru has received wide praise for his songwriting.  As Downbeat magazine notes, “His songs are blues poetry – crafted with rare verbal flair and his ability to cast a memorable hook is magical!” Bruce Iglauer, founder and president of Alligator Records calls Cru “a rare, real writer.”  Live, these songs are performed with power and passion as observed by Living Blues magazine, “The vivacity and sheer joy with which Cru plays is intoxicating!”

BLUES FOR BREAKFAST | 3/5/2016

They have played for many colleges, including UVM, Middlebury, St. Lawrence and St. Michael’s. They’ve also headlined shows for Burlington’s First Night, the Lake Champlain Quadracentennial, The Plattsburg Mayor’s Cup, and Troy, New York’s “Rockin’ On The River”, along with summer concert series in Waterbury, Richmond, Burlington, Saranac Lake, and Lake Placid to name a few. You never know who’ll get pulled up on stage to play with the “Champlain Valley’s House Band”, so come dance and have a good time!

LE GROOVE | 3/26/2016

SATURDAY, March 26, 9 PM.

LE GROOVE, a five-piece band comprised of seasoned local musicians from the Tri-Lakes, offers classic jazz, blues and swing sounds, with some Latin undertones. The smooth combination of keyboard, guitar, bass, drums, and vocals evokes both vintage and modern sounds conducive to dancing and easy listening.

Le Groove’s goal has been to develop an eclectic repertoire incorporating American standards, latin, blues and swing selections, with an emphasis on strong, tight arrangements.

Influences range from the cool style of Peggy Lee’s “Fever” to the classic sound of Dave Brubeck’s “Take Five”, and a wide variety in between, each infused with Le Groove’s own musical twist. One comment that is heard repeatedly following performances is that the listener never knows what to expect next. We like that!
